QRSC Volunteer Job Descriptions

Snowmaking Crew: The City of Waterville’s Parks and Recreation Department operates a snowmaking system from November to January, making snow on an as needed basis. Snowmaking volunteers are “on-call” for opportunities when the temperature dips below freezing. Snow making sessions typically run all night with volunteers taking turns monitoring the snow making guns and making adjustments. These volunteers make winter possible at Quarry Road Trails! Nordic Ski Race Volunteers: The Quarry Road Ski Club hosts many ski races throughout the winter. Some races are small events for the Youth Ski League, and other are large region wide competitions that attract hundreds of skiers to the area. Race volunteers are needed to set up and take down the race course, help with start and finish areas, help with timing of the races, monitor the course on tight turns, and direct parking. These events also require volunteers who have more advanced training to assist with stadium set up, medical stations, and other critical tasks. Typically volunteers work about 3 to 4 hours per race, and work several races throughout the year. Volunteering at ski races gives you a front row seat to some of the best racing action in all of New England.
